PCI SECURITY STANDARDS COUNCIL APPOINTS ROB TOURT AS 2013 CHAIRPERSON

WAKEFIELD, Mass., 28 February, 2013— Today, the PCI Security Standards Council
(PCI SSC), an open global forum for the development of payment card security
standards, announced that Rob Tourt, chief risk management officer, payment services,
Discover Network, will serve as chairperson of the PCI Security Standards Council for
the 2013 term.
Tourt succeeds Michael Mitchell, vice president, Global Network Business, American
Express, who held the position in 2012. This will be Tourt’s second term at the head of
the Executive Committee, and he will guide the Council in releasing updated versions of
its core standards, based on market feedback in 2013.
In 2013, the Council will focus on:
• Developing and launching new versions of the PCI DSS, PA-DSS and PCI PTS
requirements
• Soliciting broad industry input in the Council’s activities and initiatives through
Special Interest Groups and new membership categories
• Conducting a successful Board of Advisors election and seating a new board to
represent interests of Participating Organizations
• Driving participation in Council training opportunities for increased payment card
security expertise globally
• Working across industries to deliver guidance on mobile payment acceptance, ecommerce security, cloud computing and risk assessment
• Continued focus on technologies that may offer PCI DSS scope reduction for
merchants, including point-to-point encryption and tokenization“In my first term as Chair, early in the Council’s existence, I helped guide the
organization as it worked to expand its set of security standards to touch critical pieces
of the payment chain,” said Tourt. “As the Council has matured and industry
participation has reached strong levels, I am excited to return to this role. I look forward
to working with even more of our stakeholders across the payments chain to improve
payment security through PCI standards, starting with welcoming a new Board of
Advisors for the 2013-2015 term.”
Tourt first joined Discover as a fraud investigator. His career to date at the company
spans all areas of the payments business, and he has over 27 years of experience
including recent assignments leading the integration of Diners Club International
network into DFS, expanding Discover acceptance globally. Tourt currently serves as
head of the Payment Services’ risk organization and is responsible for; internal control,
counterparty risk management, compliance and fraud prevention activities for the
division.
