Consumerization of IT

June 26, 2013

Attacks on smartphones are becoming more common. According to McAfee Labs, malware targeting Android devices jumped 76% in the last quarter. The need to secure mobile devices from attacks has never been more important. IT security operations are under intense pressure to adopt new technologies and fully support completely new platforms, operating systems, and architectures. This pressure to adopt new technologies, often by allowing employee-liable mobile devices into the enterprise, known as Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), is commonly referred to as the “consumerization of IT.” Enterprises are also feeling pressure to mobilize business applications (such as business intelligence, sales force automation, point of sale, and document sharing) to increase productivity, drive top-line growth, improve customer satisfaction, and gain competitive advantage — in short, to improve business performance.
