Identity theft is much more than criminals obtaining credit card information.

Identity theft can come in many forms.  Personally Identifiable Information (PII) used in a fraudulent way is Identity Theft and can happen in many ways:

• Consumer’s name

• Social Security number

• Date of birth

• Address

• Driver’s license number

• Telephone number

• Passport information

• Birth certificate information

• Student transcript data

• Medical record information

Identity theft is a crime that does not discriminate. If you have PII—and everyone does—it can be stolen and misused regardless of age, credit usage, technology usage, or any other factor.

What To Do AFTER The Anthem Data Breach

We have all heard about the huge Data Breach by Anthem Blue Cross by now.  Anthem says it was a “very sophisticated” attack but there seems to be some skepticism by security websites about how “sophisticated” it was.  There were over 80 million records of PAST and PRESENT customers and employees exposed.

Sign up for fraud alerts

A fraud alert cautions lenders and other to take special care to ensure your identity before issuing new credit.

File your taxes early

It only takes two pieces of information for a crook to snag your tax refund by filing your taxes early and claiming it for themselves.

Stay vigilant

No one knows when or where or if the stolen identities will be used so affected consumers will simply have to stay mindful… forever.

HIPAA Audits Are Still On Hold
